Answer from Dr. Marcus Melvin:
Hi Sheila:
Dr. Melvin sees patients by appointment on Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of 7 and 2 for a fee of $35 and he goes over all the options with you and which will give you the results you are looking for. He individualizes the surgery for each patient.
If you use *saline* implants you need to go *under the muscle* to hide the problems of the implant - rippling, feel of a water balloon, etc.
If you are very thin and have very little breast tissue some patients like the implant *under the muscle*.
If you do go *under the muscle* you will have a built in distortion - when you engage your pectoral muscle your implant will move laterally.
You breast and implant will move and act as one when the implant is placed on *top of the muscle*.
If you have ptotic breasts the textured implant on *top of the muscle* can help hold up your breast tissue.
So in summary placement depends on your weight, breast tissue, skin bra, nipple placement, prosthesis - choice both type and size. You and Dr.
Melvin will make the choice at the consultation. It is your body - it is ultimately your decision. Dr. Melvin will advise you of the pros and cons for each placement when he meets with you and which will give you the result you are seeking.
Call or email if you have more questions or if we can assist you with scheduling a consultation.
Sincerely,
Marilyn, Office Manager for Marcus Melvin, M.D.
